WASHINGTON — US Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., reintroduced a bill Wednesday that would amend US patent laws by reducing the time automakers can enforce design patents on collision repair parts to two and a half years from 14 years against aftermarket parts suppliers. The bill — known as the Save Money on Auto Repair Transportation, or SMART, Act — would apply to automotive components, such as fenders, quarter panels and doors, and only affect aftermarket repair parts. Glendale officials agree to settlement with auto repair shops after foul balls damage cars

Glendale city officials have agreed to enter a settlement with Kummrow Automotive and others after foul balls from Richard E. Maslowski Park resulted in damaged vehicles. The Glendale Common Council voted to pay the automotive company $22,666 toward improvements that would obstruct foul balls from hitting cars parked for repair or waiting for pick-up in Kummrow’s lot. Under the settlement, Milwaukee School of Engineering and Nicolet High School will also pay $22,666 each.
