Tesla Cybertruck owners are witnessing their vehicles appreciate in value, with some reselling for tens of thousands of dollars above the original price. Johnny Beatty, a Texas-based owner, reported selling his base-model Cybertruck to a dealer for $74,000, only to see it relisted for $86,000. That’s $27,000 more than what Tesla sold the vehicle for, highlighting the significant markup in the resale market.

Beatty originally paid $58,990 after incentives for the truck, which had a base price of $59,990. He shared his experience on X, expressing surprise at the dealer’s markup. The vehicle, featuring molten wheels, is now listed on the dealer’s website for $86,015, a substantial increase from its original price just months ago.

Price Increases Boost Resale Value

Tesla initially offered the base-model Cybertruck at $59,990 for a limited 10-day promotional period. The price then rose to $70,000 and later to $75,000. These increases have enhanced the truck’s resale value, benefiting early owners who purchased during the promotional period. The sharp price hikes have turned the Cybertruck into a sought-after asset, with its value climbing steadily since its initial release.

Zhiheng Liu, another prospective owner, is trying to purchase a base-model Cybertruck reservation instead of a used vehicle. He aims to acquire the reservation at the original price plus a fee but faces challenges transferring the seller’s Tesla account, which also includes a Model Y. Liu’s situation shows the complexities involved in securing a Cybertruck reservation at the original price.

Reservation Transfers and Owner Insights

Liu sought guidance on Facebook regarding account transfer options. Some owners reported successfully buying reservations without complications. Melvin Alegria noted that the new owner replaced all personal information during the transfer process, providing a potential solution for Liu’s dilemma.

The rising prices have transformed the Cybertruck into an appreciating asset for owners. Cayden, an Oregon-based owner, commented on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, “Makes the $59K truck an actual appreciating asset.” Tesla Cybertruck owners are happy to see their vehicle value increase.
