Nio joins Tesla in cutting prices and ends free battery swapping

Nio has been offering the battery swapping service for free at least four times per month to existing owners. The data firm revealed independent shops dropped in all three categories that make up the study — quick oil change, full-service maintenance and repair and tire replacement. Shops were scored on seven measures within each of the three segments. These include ease of scheduling, fairness of charges, service adviser courtesy and quality of work. This is the fourth year of…

2025 Ram 1500 REV pickup targets 500-mile range

Stellantis is joining the electric pickup race later than its rivals, but executives say this has given the automaker time to gauge them and work to surpass them in key areas such as range, towing, payload and charge time. The 800-kilometre range for the REV’s 229-kWh battery pack and its targeted 6,350 kilograms of towing capacity exceed what’s on the market now. Chevrolet is going after 9,070 kilograms of towing for the work truck variant of its 2025 Silverado EV pickup. Ram said it is aiming for the REV to deliver a 0-to-100 km/h time of 4.4 seconds, 654 hp…

Car dealers see drop in per-franchise sales in 2022

Throughput fell for 30 franchised brands and increased to 11, not counting Polestar which was new to the list. Mitch Phillips, global director of data at Urban Science, a consulting firm that also tracks dealership counts, attributed the industry’s decline in throughput not only to inventory shortages, but also to the economy and consumer perception of the economic conditions to come. Toyota, which has long held the top spot for throughput, again was No. 1 with 1,494 vehicles sold per franchise, though also down 8.8 percent from a year ago, as its inventory was constrained. Lexus again finished No. 2,…
